Ozone equipment is an unusually noisy market. Listings lean on words like professional, medical grade and high output, none of which mean anything specific. Here is what to look at instead.
1. What the ozone chamber is made of
This is the single biggest quality difference between units, and the one most listings skip.
Ozone is a powerful oxidiser. If the gas path touches ordinary metal, the metal slowly oxidises and that ends up in your output. A quartz cell keeps the discharge away from metal entirely, which is why higher-end units use one.
What to ask: is the cell quartz, and does the ozone touch any metal on its way out? If the seller cannot answer, that tells you something.
2. Whether the output is actually calibrated
Concentration is measured in µg/ml (micrograms per millilitre). A unit that says "adjustable output" without numbers is telling you it has a dial, not that it is calibrated.
A properly specified unit ships with an output chart: for a given dial position and a given oxygen flow rate, here is the concentration you get. Without that chart, a dial position is meaningless, and you cannot repeat a result or compare one session to another.
What to ask: does it come with a calibrated output chart specific to that unit, and over what range?
3. What gas you have to feed it
Ozone is made from oxygen, and where you get that oxygen changes everything.
- Ambient air is 78% nitrogen. Run air through a corona discharge and you also produce nitrogen oxides, which you do not want. Air-fed units are for odour and remediation work.
- Pure oxygen, from a cylinder or concentrator, produces clean, high concentrations.
Never feed an air-designed unit with pure oxygen, or vice versa, when the manufacturer prohibits it. Both directions cause problems, and one of them is a fire risk.

4. Whether every wetted part is ozone-safe
Ozone destroys most rubber and plastic. A unit can have a beautiful quartz cell and still deliver contaminated gas because the tubing perished.
Look for silicone or PTFE tubing, glass or ozone-rated diffusers, and 316 stainless fittings. Our materials guide covers what survives and what does not.
5. What the warranty actually covers
The cell is the part that ages. A warranty covering "the unit" for a year is worth much less than one covering the ozone chamber for life, because the chamber is what you would otherwise be replacing.
What to ask: is the chamber covered separately, for how long, and is the cover transferable if you sell the unit on?

- Quartz cell, no metal contact in the gas path
- Calibrated output chart supplied with the unit, in µg/ml
- Clear feed gas requirement, and a matching regulator
- Silicone or PTFE tubing, 316 stainless fittings, ozone-rated diffuser
- Warranty that names the ozone chamber specifically
- Made somewhere you can get support from
